Lloyds TSB Show Garden - bronze flora
Lloyds TSB
Designer: Trevor Tooth
The bronze flora 'Lloyds TSB Show Garden' is a modern garden with a traditional English feel. The garden aims to engage people of all ages and is a real garden, designed for real people.
The 'Lloyds TSB Show Garden' is a raised garden, which is entered via floating steps. It is retained by a black Perspex wall and there are white stemmed birch trees at the front, under-planted with mint. Two pools are connected by a rill, which divides the garden. Holographic art panels reflect onto the pools and create movement.
The lawn is surrounded by an abundance of planting, which is controlled and held back by steel edging. The lawn leads to a bridge that crosses the rill into a sunken area for relaxation and entertainment. Here there is a seat that captures rainwater, which flows into the far pool. The space is covered by a louvred pergola that one of the trees grows through. Ferns grow below the floor, which is a metal grid, and a glass cantilevered table and weather-proof cushions surround the space.
The rear boundary is a white Perspex wall with black bamboos under-planted with grasses. The side is a mixture of cedar-stripped fencing and white Perspex panels.
The planting scheme follows Lloyds TSB colour palette with white, black, blue, green and grey tones. The plants are a mixture of traditional and some more architectural trees and shrubs.
This is the garden designer's, Trevor Tooth, first time at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. He exhibited at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in 2005 and 2006, and was awarded a Silver-Gilt medal for his 2006 Show Garden.
